Fox Wants Channing Tatum & Joseph Gordon-Levitt For Their 'Guys And Dolls' Remake

Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt starring in a remake of the classic musical “Guys And Dolls“?. It’s not the worst idea we’ve ever heard…

Now that the studio has cinched up the rights to the classic, they are starting development and have these two guys in mind. Granted, they aren’t Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando, but really, who is? They’ve both shown an affinity for dancing, performing and singing (okay, C-Tates not so much in the last department) in a variety of venues, from the Oscars to “Saturday Night Live.” And moreover, there are few actors their age who appeal both to bros and dudettes. Basically, they will make it okay to see a movie about some shady gamblers who make a bet over getting a girl to date one of ’em while looking to raise scratch for a craps game. The material won a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize back in the 1950s and, of course, was turned into an iconic movie.

Now don’t get too upset that this is happening. Firstly, it was bound to sooner or later because that’s just show things go and secondly, no one is locked in yet. A script needs to be written and a director found, so this is a long way off anyway. Just be thankful that rumor a few years ago that Guy Ritchie was going to do it turned out to be bogus. Please ! Channing Tatum cannot act to save his life ( he even referred to himself as a bad actor ) , and he doesn't have an ounce of singing talent. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a passable singing voice – not a strong singing voice for this material . Plus, both of these actors are not manly enough for their roles.

One blogger recommended Hugh Jackman, Jeremy Renner ( surprisingly lovely singing voice ) , or Robbie Williams. I completely agree .

They have got to be kidding. Guys and Dolls for the Hunger Games crowd? Talk about totally unsuitable for the roles.

This article's preemptively apologetic, almost "too cool to completely approve" take is amusing. C'mon, it could be fun! It's not 1955 anymore, folks. Brando and Sinatra are done doing movies. Let's move on. Believe it or not there's actually a lot of great young talent out there, and I think JGL at least could do this right.

As for the rest of the casting, I hope they don't reuse any of the Les Mis/Chicago/Moulin Rouge! casts, at least not yet while the movie musical is still being (slowly) revived. Let's keep it interesting and spread the wealth!

No, no, a thousand times no. Sky has been around the block more than a few times and amassed a reputation with a pair of dice as well as the ladies. Nathan has been engaged to his overripe nightclub chanteuse fiancee for 14 years. Who's kidding whom? A Gen Y slacker version of an American classic, arguably one of the greatest musicals in the musical theater canon? Oh, please! Hugh Jackman and someone like Jack Black (if he could sing) would be much better casting. This isn't High School Musical Part 4.

What an awful idea.

Please don't let this happen! Stop killing the classics!
