Jamie Foxx Will Be Daddy Warbucks Variation Opposite Quvenzhane Wallis in 'Annie'

Jamie Foxx is reportedly in negotiations to star opposite Quvenzhane Wallis in the Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and James Lassiter-produced Annie musical film adaptation, which Jay-Z is scoring.

As of our last post on the project, the rumor was that Justin Timberlake was in consideration for the role of Daddy Warbucks, which was later dismissed by Sony Pictures.

Jamie Foxx is instead in talks to play, not Daddy Warbucks, but a variation of the character named Benjamin Stacks.

Will Gluck is directing the project, based on a script he revised, originally written by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna.

As we previously noted, in the original Annie story, Daddy
Warbucks is supposed to be an older gentleman; someone in his 50s, who also
happens to be filthy rich, and is bald.

Obviously the film’s producers
are taking some creative liberties with the story, and aren’t
married to the source material, starting with the character’s name change.

Although we weren’t expecting the Daddy Warbucks
character would be played by a black actor, so this is a bit of a surprise.

In past film adaptations of Annie, Warbucks has been played by the likes of Albert Finney and Victor Garber.

The long-in-development remake of the Broadway musical will be released by Sony Pictures on December 25, 2014.

Up next for Foxx, who suddenly seems busier as an actor than usual, coming off his starring role in the international hit Django Unchained, is playing the president in Roland Emmerich’s tentpole, White House Down, which opens June 28, and he’ll be playing the villain Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, out next summer.

Yeah jamie Fox.Bring all your musical this one Jamie fox.Show us what you've got.

Say what you will about Jamie Foxx, he is arguably the most multifaceted/multi-talented/versatile black performer on the scene. Granted, his inclusion is a bit of a surprise, but let's praise the fact Will and Jada are stepping to the plate with a black thang. And come to think about it, Jamie is a perfect choice. He has proven he's Oscar material and he CAN sing with the best. Really, there is not a better choice.

So come on folks, isn't this what we've been clamoring for? Black dollars and Oscar nominated performers on the big screen, all working together with one mission in mind… Hip-Hip Hooray, the gangs all here. Lets tell the world and show the world – we will not be denied.

I just vomited in my mouth and nose.

Boo… Won't be watching this one. Smh.
