Magnolia Pictures has acquired U.S. rights to Dan Mazer’s romantic comedy “I Give It A Year” from StudioCanal, who fully financed and released the film in the UK, France, and Germany in February. Magnolia will distribute the film in the U.S.,, with plans for both a theatrical and VOD release in their Ultra VOD program later this year. The film marks frequent Sacha Baron Cohen collaborator and Academy Award nominee for “Borat” Mazer’s directorial debut.
“Dan Mazer is a terrific writer who has managed to both skewer and celebrate the romantic comedy genre and also deliver a gut-bustingly funny picture,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles.
The film, which follows the exploits of a young couple (Rafe Spall and Rose Byrne) in a marriage that seems doomed to fail from the start, also stars Simon Baker, Anna Faris, and Stephen Merchant.
