Second Season Premiere of ‘Iyanla:Fix My Life’ Hits Rating High

Second Season Premiere of 'Iyanla:Fix My Life' Hits Rating High

I’m willing to bet that Oprah and Iyanla Vanzant are both really happy when Iyanla came back on Oprah’s old talk show to basically apologize and beg for forgiveness.

It was then that it was pretty obvious to everyone that Iyanla had in her mind a plan for her to get own show on OWN. And she did. And it’s a smash hit.

Last Saturday’s second season premiere with rapper DMX and his son pulled in 1.4 million viewers, which is an increase of 22% from last season’s premiere episode with Basketball Wives reailty star Evelyn Lozada

And the late night repeast of the DMX show pulled in another 420, 000 viewers.

As for the reason for the show’s success, Iyanla said that “There’s
a lot of reality TV. People watch, walking away feeling excited, angry or
disgusted. We try to give people lessons they can use in their lives. We take
reality to another level. Not just the dysfunction but we serve these people,
not just provide entertainment.”

“We
are trying to restore people. Restore their hearts and minds and trying to give
them a sense of renewal. My goal is to realize their vision, clearing out
whatever is in the way of manifesting their vision.

To add to the success of OWN on Saturday night, the premiere of Life with LaToya with LaToya Jackson, which followed Fix My Life, drew another 1.5 million viewers.

And this Saturday night will see another new reality celebrity show on OWN, Raising Whitley with comedian Kim Whitley, which will make its premiere between Iyanla’s and LaToya’s shows.

QUICK-RUN-HIDE YOUR CHILDREN'S EYE'S!

"Addictions and all, how is the junkie the wisest one in the room and making the most sense?"

Excuse me, but that's an ignorant statement! No human should be subjected to that nonsense. Listen, those who struggle with addictions are in no form or fashion, a monolithic group. Let me highlight a few familiar names: Howard Hughes (Aviator, engineer, industrialist), Albert Einstein, Abbie Hoffman (politcal Activist), Michael Jackson, the Kennedy Family, Sigmund Freud (Neurologist), Josiah Lamborn (Attorney General). Ya know, drug and alcohol addiction takes no prisoners, only a fool would suggest otherwise.

That reminds me, some folks are having a problem with Iyanla Vanzant hosting this show. Well, I believe I know why. They are simply looking in the wrong place. I mean, this is a perfect time to break out the saying "Don't Shoot The Messenger"… focus on the message. Yep, and TAZ got that message… "This is a good show in that as part of the audience, the subject touched, the words spoken may help highlight an issue you have seen or heard" ~ TAZ

In my opinion (journey & struggles) I've come to believe in the deepest message of those words. When I see people going through my "storms" and I accept the fact that I may not have arrived, I can learn from their good AND BAD examples. In fact, who IS best to lead me out of my fire storms, than someone who has traveled that road before me? Come on now, a choir boy cannot lead me out of my storms 'cause he has not walked in these shoes. I need someone who has felt my pain and then we might have something to talk about.

In short, one may not like Iyanla's interviewing style or the woman, but I know she has suffered just like you and I. So I am all ears, taking in the good and leaving the "bad" behind.

Man-Over-Bored

I suggest she feature DMX for nine more episodes, with a different one of his offspring confronting him (in similar manner) on each one!

NotAFan

I'm so curious to know how her approach was intended to help DMX or Evelyn or anyone else foolish enough to sign up for this "television" actually FIX En.Tee.Thang in their life.

Iylana is formulaically lifting herself up higher by stepping on the heads of these broken individuals. You will never see anyone that isn't already a public spectacle featured because then she would catch some heat for the way she doesn't help them. I actually came away with more respect for DMX after watching the episode as Iylana edited it. Addictions and all, how is the junkie the wisest one in the room and making the most sense?

Vanzant has always been a fraud. She has as much credibility as a Catholic priest talking to assault survivors abused by priests. People don't tune in for insight, it's the tv version of the National Enquier. Shame on you Oprah, she's fooled you once again. You are above this Oprah, don't resort to putting on exploitive shows just for ratings. I can't watch an hour of OWN without a Vanzant promo showing at EVERY commercial break.

This is a good show in that as part of the audience, the subject touched, the words spoken may help highlight an issue you have seen or heard., unlike what someone else has stated. I do not watch every episode, as some do not hold any significance for me, but if the topic is of interest, I will watch.

In fact, I still have the DVR recording of one particular episode from the first season. Iyanla was invited to help a sister group of bloggers from Chicago get the root of their bickering. It explored subtle and not so subtle ways females arm themselves personally and especially in business. The fact that this was a group of black women of various ages made this VERY interesting to me as I and my sister-friends are also of differing ages, sizes, hues and backgrounds.

I love the show. It's great. Tonight's episode will feature Sheree and Bob. I'm pretty sure the dissenters will be watching with baited breathe. lol

If Vanzant thinks that the purpose of reality TV is anything other than dysfunction, perversity, and conflict, she's a bigger idiot than she appears to be.

Yes. I suppose that it was a ratings hit. Exactly their intentions. I am guilty too. I was a part of that number! I slowed down to stare at a gruesome car wreck!
Smh. Awful. Exploitative. Shameful.
It was just an intervention with another junkie. And the only draw was that it was a very renowned junkie. A famous drug addict
So many issues to this show. Why would someone sit and converse with someone completely out of their minds with drugs??? In a rehab facility-yes!the But not while the person is still under the influence! Anyone who knows a junkie, no amount of begging, pleading, threatening, crying, will do shit!!!!
Had they grabbed his ass and put him away-now THAT would've been something to watch!!
Otherwise this was just a junkie and his family and a talented television guru going at it!
