South Africa’s National Film & Video Foundation Call For Firsttime Filmmaker Project Proposals

South Africa's National Film & Video Foundation Call For Firsttime Filmmaker Project Proposals

South Africa’s National Film and Video Foundation have opened a call for proposals for local first time filmmakers to make their first films.

The First Time Filmmaker Project is to provide recent film school graduates from historically disadvantaged backgrounds with an opportunity to make their first professional film. Successful writers or directors will be guided in the development of their stories for 12-15 minute scripts for a fiction film over a period of 5 months.

Themes and story ideas should reflect how young South Africans experience life in post-apartheid South Africa, particularly those referred to as the “born free” generation. The perspective and point of view of this generation of young people is largely misunderstood and often misrepresented. The stories are a window into and a gauge that takes the temperature of where we’ve come from, who we are and where we want to go to. Your story ideas can embrace all genres from love stories to coming of age and everything in between.

  • The scripts will be prepped for camera in preparation for the production of the films with the aim of the films being completed by March 2014. During this process each director will be provided with the necessary tools to break down scripts for camera as well as detailed strategies for extracting the best performances from the actors.
  • The successful projects and teams will then be provided with a professional production crew to shoot their film. A post-production supervisor will be appointed to assist them in the editing and final delivery of the film.
  • Once the films are completed the producers in association with the NFVF will be involved in developing a strategy for marketing and distribution. Finally, a special premiere of three of the best completed films as chosen by their peers will be held at a suitable venue to be confirmed with the cast, crew and creative personnel as well as NFVF council and staff.

In order for a filmmaker to be considered for this opportunity, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Have graduated from an accredited tertiary film programme within the last two years.
  • Be a Historically Disadvantaged Individual as defined in the constitution of South Africa.
  • Be under 35 years old.
  • Be able to set aside the requisite time over a period of 12 months to complete the programme

If the people of all nations vote ONLY for non-nepotistic, non-term limitless politicians that will distribute unused state land, and distribute the wealth of extreme plutocrats, with the 99% level earning army and 99% level earning police, everyone need not ever work again, and only need to cultivate their own subsistence food on that distributed land, build their own homes on that distributed land and not overpopulate (if they like to overpopulate, then their quality of life will be lower – on that same few acres of land, a single family will be better off than a few extended families etc. and wil not need to work, as opposed to a very large extended series of families on the same land which will starve unless they work. The 99%'s only duty is to not over-populate once that unused state land is distributed.. – DO NOT EXPECT MORE LAND . . . Earth has limited resources and a country with 1000 people as opposed to a country with 100 million people will be richer by ratio alone, to overpopulate is to impoverish).

Think, what distribution of unused state land does for the entire population in terms of savings. Graves are free. Food can be grown FOR FREE. Medicine can be grown from herbs. Houses can be built (depending on how much one wants to spend, an extended series of tents to castle-like structures that need stone though that could be quarried on a needs basis and charged against by the government directly at WHOLESALE prices rather than enriching middlemen who somehow have license to mineral mine, quarry or oilfield (more examples of cronyism – why does any citizen deserve the advantage of 'owning quarries or natural resources' while every other does not – if the country belongs to everyone, then the stone in the mineral mine, quarry or oilfield should belong to every citizen at equal levels at wholesale levels (presumably to foreigners and tousists), not somehow be licenced to any citizen without term limits so they can profit off sale of NATIONAL resources but you cannot!!! – much like plantation produce and commodities should enrich everyone not just a handful – if everyone in Africa had equal access to profits from diamond or gold mines – for example at a rate of 10 carats or 100 ounces, everyone in Africa would be millionaires and be hiring people to mine for them instead of there being a parasite post-colonial-BLACK master class that somehow gets the profits but the same also Black slave miners do not – if the 99%ters vote in Africa long these land distribution and commodity distributive lines, they'd all be able to retire by the next election because very likely each African would have 10 carats of diamonds or 100 ounces of gold to their name instantaneously . . . in time to come at the rate of 13 billion worth of diamonds mined and 2.2 billion (2500 tons of gold) a year . . . at equal distribution while living for free ON unused state land distributed FREE – The average yearly income for each person in West Africa is $309, they can all NEVER work by the next election and become millionaires in 20-50 years barring labour distribution and participation as well as distribution of wealht from finished products like diamonds and gold . . . vote properly African 99%ters! You blacks overthrew white colonial masters, and now serve black post-colonial masters who are not distributing that wealth STUPID 99%ters . . . if the blacks don't vote in the manner above by the next election, I'll say every insult by the whites about black intelligence will be justified.) but again also get imposed with red tape to validate the b.s..) can be built.

How could the 99% be stupid enough to vote for any politician who refuses to drop taxes or lower police fines to an equitable salary percentage based level, for those unable to retire, who are supporting apartheid laws, who refuse to distribute unused state land for all, or impose all kinds of red tape like quit rent, compulsory vehicle testing (this is for safety but those who are not safe could at most be required to warn users or be penalised ONCE the vehicle causes problems but should be allowed to save money and run on the road), or utilities the above purposes yet are getting many times, sometimes tens of times more than 3-5 times annual average national wage?)

The solution is simple enough, vote for people who will distribute unused state land or who will stop writing laws that detain and fine and ultimately impoverish with the intent to enslave via taking away precious resources on pretext of enforcing laws. Medicine is not an issue, grow herbs and process in a clean room wearing gloves and masks, haircovers, thats where all medicines and pills come from anyway – in fact some pharma are made from dangerously synthetic materials rather than real plants or real animal parts (preferably harvested in as organic and humane a manner as possible).
