Via her Push It Productions, Wanda Sykes and company partner Page Hurwitz, have signed a first-look deal with NBC/Universal TV to develop and produce unscripted projects.
So what does that mean exactly? Well, basically, NBC/Universal has the right of “first refusal” on projects Push It Productions proposes to develop. And if NBC/Universal, after “first looking” at the proposed project, isn’t interested and decline to back it, then Sykes and Hurwitz can offer it up to another studio, or interested company.
Essentially, despite the agreement, there are no guarantees of anything here, other than that NBC/Universal will seriously consider the project when presented, and reserves the right to do so before any other studio/TV network.
But it’s a “good look” nonetheless; after all, it’s not like any of us here is in a position to sign any first-look deals with NBC/Universal, or any other studio.
So good luck to three-time Emmy winner Wanda Sykes, who last hosted 2 hour-long specials for the Logo network, titled NewNowNext Vote with Wanda Sykes, during last fall’s presidential campaign season.
What can we expect from this first-look deal with Universal? Time will tell…
