And 'Downton Abbey's' First Black Cast Member Will Be...

As you may recall last year, Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes announced that he intended to introduce a black character to the show’s cast for its fourth season, which will soon go into production.

And it was announced, just a few hours ago, that that character will played by Gary Carr, who many of you will know from his role as the young ambitious cop Fidel Best on the BBC TV series Death in Paradise.

Carr will play a singer at an exclusive night club. His role has been described as “a charming and charismatic young man”.

One of the producers of the show said that Carr’s addition to the cast “will bring interesting
twists to the
drama which we can’t wait for viewers to see in series
which I interpret to mean that he’s going to have an affair with that daughter who became a widow at the end of last season.

I’m just guessing.

:clutchingpearls: Yum…

He is cute! He looks like a younger version of the actor Leon.

Yes, my guess is that he'll be the entry to inter-racial sex at that time and place. How scandalous!

He's cute.

I'm excited and apprehensive at the same time. Excited because they are getting their first black cast member. Apprehensive because I'm scared that he'll be that token that will be used to flesh out the white characters and never grow as a character himself (magical negro). I really hope they don't take it there.

Nice. He'll most likely be a love interest to the young cousin. They already had to pull her out of a London nightclub where there was "Race" music and racial mixing. That may be too obvious, but I do believe she'll be the door that leads somebody to this kat.
