Laurence Fishburne has signed up to star alongside Brenton Thwaites in Will Eubank’s indie sci-fi thriller The Signal.
The story centers on 3 college freshmen who become targets of a rival computer hacker, and who are lured to an abandoned shack in the middle of the desert.
Olivia Cooke, Beau Knapp, Sarah Clarke, Lin Shaye and Robert Longstreet round out the cast.
No word on what Fishburne’s role is yet.
Principal photography begins next week in New Mexico, with Automatic and Low Spark producing.
FilmDistrict has acquired USA distribution rights for the film which also stars E1 is distributing in the U.K., Canada and Spain.
Meanwhile, Image Entertainment picked up USA release rights to another sci-fi thriller starring Fisburne, titled The Colony, which as recently released in Canadian theaters.
The $16 million Canadian production is directed by Jeff Renfroe, from a script he co-wrote with Patrick Tarr, Pacal Trottier and Svet Rouskov, and it centers on a group of underground survivors fighting to survive after the next Ice Age, fending off an invasion of feral cannibals.
Bill Paxton co-stars with Fishburne.
Also, look for the active Fishburne alongside Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez, Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy in a new drama film, titled Rudderless, which will be directed by Macy.
