Chloe Moretz Offered Role Of Young Prostitute In 'The Equalizer' With Denzel Washington

Okay, we didn’t see this coming. At all. At only sixteen years old, Chloe Moretz is already looking to push the envelope with the roles she’ll take on, featuring in the grimy indie “Hick” (which by all accounts was pretty awful) while this fall she’ll reign in terror as “Carrie.” But taking the part of a young prostitute? Like we said, didn’t see this one coming…

Nothing is confirmed just yet, but Deadline reports that the offer has been made to Moretz to take the role of Teri, the female lead, in Sony‘s long developing “The Equalizer” with Denzel Washington set to star, and Antoine Fuqua to direct. No, this isn’t the idea of some pervy studio exec, but Moretz participated in a table read for the part, and apparently impressed Washington and everyone else in the room. The part was originally slated for a twenty-something actor, but Moretz was so good it’s her they want instead, and the role is being compared to Jodie Foster‘s in “Taxi Driver,” because what else are they going to compare it to? And as for the actress she seems stoked and has tweeted that she “cannot wait to start,” so this looks like it’s happening.

We can only imagine this might raise a few eyebrows, so it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out. According to Deadline, the movie is still being aimed for an April 11, 2014 release, but considering that’s less than a year away, and Moretz also has Lynn Shelton‘s “Laggies” on her plate, something tells us that might change.

TOTALLY saw this coming!! After watching Dark Shadows last year and realizing just how young she is, I knew the pervs of Hollywood were just priming her for such a part. Completely obvious! The newest MK'ed delight :(

Sad for her.

I just don't picture a black dude as the Equalizer because I am so used to the original series. It's sort of like if they suddenly cast a white dude as Blade or a black dude as Bond. That just doesn't really work. I do love Denzel and his films, but with this one I think I will pass.

Denzel should not be the Equalizer….it should be an englishman….crowe, brosnan, anyone but an american

Chloe Moretz is the best actress of her generation, and Hick was well worth seeing for her performance alone. I always look forward to her films; if she wants to be in it, it must be good. She always has interesting taste in projects.

Michael M.

Sounds promising, suppose they acquire a solid director than this should be pretty good. Unfortunately Refn was attached as director briefly but had to exit due to a number of other commitments.

Wonder if that gang rape scene will stay in the script now…

The only part of Hick that was awful was the implausibility of a gun going off at just the exact worst time and no other. And they're not comparing Chloe to Jodie's 'Taxi Driver', though she did re-enact a scene from that with Keanu Reeves playing the part of Robert DiNiro. They're comparing it to the role of the unknown actress in the original 'Equalizer' episode who ran away from home and got caught up in the big city underage porno KERFUFFLE. Cleveland Steamer, anyone?

HICK was not awful. Maybe for someone who's perspective is limited…
