The Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts is one of the Arab world’s major film festivals, and the first to be exclusively dedicated to documentaries and shorts. The festival was first launched in 1991 under the presidency of Kamal Abdel Aziz director of the Egyptian Film Center, which is under the jurisdiction of Egypt’s Ministry of Culture.
The Ismailia Documentary Co-production Platform, which will take place on June 6, 7, and 8, 2013, will be an opportunity for filmmakers to have meetings with industry pros, sales agents, and financiers.
The current cycle has already closed, but, for the upcoming cycle (dates to be announced), filmmakers from all over the world, who have a project with “an Arab connection” (director, producer, co-producer, main talent, location, subject matter, etc…) are encouraged to apply with feature-length creative documentaries either at the development or post-production phase.
An international jury selects approximately 8-10 projects in development and 2 – 4 works-in-progress.
Following the deadline an international team will evaluate the submissions and select the final projects.
The Ismailia Coproduction Platform will then invite the project representatives to come to Ismailia for 3 days during which they will have a schedule of one-to-one meetings with Egyptian producers, distributors, as well as with international producers, sales agents and distributors.
In addition, the forum offers several prizes:
• Development prize of USD 5000 • Post-production prize in the form of Post Production facilities worth up to 15,000 USD • Human Rights Prize
The current cycle’s final selections should be announced shortly.
