FX Orders a Pilot for Tracy Morgan Comedy 'Death Pact'

“30 Rock” is gone, but Tracy Morgan was never meant to stay off the air for long. The “Saturday Night Live” alum is starring in a new comedy pilot for FX called “Death Pact,” the network announced today.

Created by Rob Long (“Cheers,” “Sullivan & Son” and the National Review) and Tad Safran (“The Long Weekend,” “Doogal”), “Death Pact” is a single-camera, half-hour comedy in which Morgan stars as a once lazy, pot-dealing assistance high school coach who comes back to his home town a decorated war hero, and enlists three down-on-their-luck friends and former students into following his harsh new self-help philosophy.

Long and Safran are writing the pilot and executive producing it alongside Eric and Kim Tannenbaum of the Tannenbaum Company. The project is produced by FX Productions and will shoot this summer in New York or New Jersey.

FX has been expanding its original programming slate in anticipation of the launch of comedy-centric spin-off network FXX. Morgan played eccentric actor, comedian and aspiring EGOT-er Tracy Jordan for eight years on “30 Rock.”
