Jaden Smith Is Attacked By CG Creatures In 2 New Clips From 'After Earth'

Here are 2 new clips from After Earth – the Will SmithJaden Smith sci-fi adventure directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Full synopsis reads:

In After Earth, one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance.

Zoe Kravitz and Sophie Okonedo co-star as sister/daughter and mother/wife respectively.

Columbia Pictures is has set a May 31 release for the movie.

By the way, as announced last week, a sequel to the film is already being considered, likely depending on how well the first film does globally – emphasis on “globally” because I’m not expecting this to do very well here in the USA, if the trailer and clips I’ve seen thus far are an indication of what the rest of the film is like.

As I’ve said before, this looks weak to me!

But I could certainly be wrong, and USA audiences will eat it up!

I am going to see this film, at minimum, for no other reason than to see a positive black father and son dynamic on the big screen..actors and characters….Father showing and instructing the son on the path he wants to go and most importantly connecting with said son. It boggles my mind that many of us can wax poetic about Black images in the media but then……&$# )*&^#$%*) *&(#%$.

So, I am going to start keep score……each time we articulate the ills of Hollywood in respect to positive Black moves, creative storytelling. I will miss a good number because I do have a life, but ya'll get the gist. Let's see if there is a pattern…or if your subconscious will deliberately prove me wrong. Either way I win. :)

Movie: After Earth
Roles: Father- Son relationship, coming of age, bonding
Written by: Us
Independent film?: No
Critique: We thought the trailer was boring and showed their CGI not up to par with 3D produced Life of PI and the acting was suspect.

Movie: Peeples
Roles: Family comedy involving daughter, engagement, future son-in-law
Written by: Us
Independent film?: No
Critique: Many of us don't like actress, some don't like the actor, many don't think actor is cute/slim enough for actress so it is not believable…..and last but not least: Tyler Perry name is associated with the film so H2theNO.

And because we are a prolific people, we will spread our feelings all over and influence others that are easily influenceable! Yaaaas!

Black people 2, Black movies 0
(Race started May 2013 – We's winning!)

PS: XOXO CareyCarey

i personally am a huge will smmith and Jaden smith fan and I plan to see this ASAP
give the kid a break people he is like 14 and he has a lot to live up to but honestly i love have a super keen eye for "fake" stuff cause me personally I love the sabers in this and the nest scene that was just released "youtube after earth tigers"

I want to see this, but these were weird clips to release. Watching Jaden fight random animals does nothing for me. What are they trying to sell here?

I do not think its weak I think is cool and breath taking

"See we support black folk that do what we like, say what we would say, look like we would look, feel like we would feel, stand like we stand, lie like we lie, marry who we would marry, and on and on and on"

I don't how that fits my following comment, but I love the richness of those words.

Listen, first, I fell asleep watching Life of Pi. Okay, lets get that straight, I am not moved by CGI technology. Maybe that has something to do with the apple tree I fell from. When I was a kid, my toys didn't move, blink, nor transform from a super-human to a B-52 bomber. If there were any sounds emanating around my toys, they came from my mouth. My army men didn't take flight until I threw them across the room. So I am suggesting I may not be the target audience for movies which weigh heavily on CGI.

Having said that, my prediction of this movie is… IT'S A HIT! That's right, why shouldn't it be? First, it's Will Smith (CHECK). Now check this, speaking of Sergio's aversion for grown-ass comic book nerds, I can't believe Trekkies and Geekies, Nerds, Comic Book Kids and Harry Potter heads will call all their friends (or Facebook them) to forewarn them about the "unacceptable" CGI effects in "Earth". Nope, if Will builds it, they will come.

Anyway, as I said, I am not big on CGI but I saw these trailers on the big screen, my 17 inch computer with built-in speakers, does not do this film justice. Hey, I know skinny legs Will Jr. can't out maneuver wild apes or fly like a bird, but I believe this film will get my money.

I love how you can't find M Night's name ANYWHERE in the marketing of this film. Its like taking nasty cough syrup but hiding it in orange juice.

Not that long ago M Night Shyalaflop's name was all over the place in movies he directed. His agent must have dirt on all of the studio heads.

Since I refuse to watch another Michael Bay film, I had high hopes for this one. The trailer did look promising but after watching these clips I think I will pass. Now I can see why you thought it was weak Tambay, I thought it was just a matter of preference for you, but you saw more than we did and came to a conclusion. My biggest concern was M. Night Shyamalan's involvement because he really has gone downhill with the quality of his work. But I would have never thought Jaden's acting would be so terrible, but again, this may not even be his fault like you said, it may be how he's being directed. The other films he's done with his father were great or at the very least worth the trip to the cinema. I fear this one might not do well.

After Life of Pi, CGI like this is unacceptable.

I liked this boy in Karate Kid, but from these clips, it looks as though either his acting his seriously regressed or M.Night Shyamalan simply has directed him poorly. Smh. I was interested in going to see this initially. From these two clips, though, I'm not so sure.

Like Tyler Perry, M Night Shyalaman tarnished his own brand, which also started out strong with The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs. Downhill from there. I'm dreading that at the end of After Earth, the camera will pull back and we'll see that Will and Jaden Smith's characters are really players inside a video game. I agree the international box office will overshadow the domestic box office due to Will Smith's monster overseas marketing.

I think that announcement of a sequel before the first film is out is an obvious and desperate marketing ploy. It looks weak, lazy and uninteresting. Are these really the best teasers they could release?
Spielberg wouldn't direct Jurassic Park until they could convince him that the dinosaurs would look real. What the hell has happened in the 20 years since, that this CGI shit is acceptable???

It does look weak and unconvincing in every way ie: Will Smith's line delivery and the CGI big cat action sequence. Bad idea using Shyamalan. Was he signed before or after The Last Airbender? smh

Looks like they used that same cut rate bargain Bulgarian CGI effects shop they used for Olympus Has Fallen
