FIRST PEEK: Miyazaki's "The Wind Rises"

Here’s the first glimpse, via a 35-sec teaser, for the latest Hayao Miyazaki feature, The Wind Rises (Kaze ga Tachinu). The film tells the story of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the infamous Japanese Zero Fighters used in World War II. The Wind Rises opens in Japan on July 20th, no U.S. release has been set – yet.

I like the soft sound effects and…is that zither music I'm hearing??

From what I understand this is slated to be Miyazaki's last film. And Takahata is working on his last film for the studio as well. The end of an age and this looks like a very fine "last hurrah". (My hope is that Goro will have gained enough experience to carry the torch through the next generation. Have yet to see his second film, "Up on Poppy Hill'.)

is Hayao Miyazaki actually involved with this, or is just being produced by his studio? I thought he retired.

I'm adding this film onto my must see list. Always liked Miyazaki films growing up and this short trailer looks great.
