'Game of Thrones' Season Three Finale Nabs Series' Second-Highest Ratings; Surpasses Viewership of 'True Blood'

Fans weren’t scared off after last week’s bloody “Red Wedding” episode. HBO’s “Game of Thrones” scored its second-highest viewership to date for the June 9 finale episode of the series’ third season. An estimated 5.4 million GOT fans tuned in for the first telecast, which is up a whopping 30% from last year’s finale.

A second airing brought the total up to 6.3 million. This means that “Game of Thrones” has finally surpassed “True Blood” as the second-place holder for ratings (“The Sopranos” still sits in first place). GOT nabbed a 13.6 million viewer average across all platforms in its third season, while the top season for “True Blood,” in 2010, averaged 13 million viewers.

No word on demographic data, but thanks to a recent Nielsen report, we now know the myth that women don’t like “Game of Thrones” is bunk

Needless to say, HBO has renewed “Game of Thrones” for a ten-episode fourth season.
