Showtime has made episode 1 of its new drama series Ray Donovan, available online for all to watch.
The series stars Liev Schreiber in his first lead TV role, playing LA’s best professional fixer – the man called in to make the city’s celebrities, superstar athletes, and business moguls’ most complicated and combustible situations go away.
This powerful drama unfolds when his father, Mickey Donovan, played by Jon Voight, is unexpectedly released from prison, setting off a chain of events that shakes the Donovan family to its core.
Not quite Olivia Pope’s story, but you get the picture.
I mention this series in part because Pooch Hall (The Game) co-stars in the series. He plays Ray’s brother Daryll, who is described as Mickey’s illegitimate son from an affair (Mickey is played by John Voight). The Donovans have only recently learned of his existence and, aside from Ray, are embracing and welcoming him to the family. Mickey uses him to do some of his dirty work, which gets Daryll into immediate trouble.
I haven’t watched the episode yet, so I can’t offer any commentary on how involved his character is, but it reads like it could be a part with meat on it. Feel free to get ahead of me, and watch the premiere episode below.
Ray Donovan is created and executive-produced by Ann Biderman (Southland), who also wrote the pilot episode. The series is also executive produced by Mark Gordon and Bryan Zuriff. The pilot was directed by Allen Coulter (The Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy).
