Watch: Here's the First Clip From Lars von Trier's Sexual Epic 'Nymphomaniac'

Lars von Trier, who’s refrained from doing press following his 2011 Cannes blowout, has been teasing his latest work, the two-part sexual epic “Nymphomaniac,” via a sly poster, stills and a mysterious website. Today, the first footage from the film has made its way online.

Culled from the first chapter of “Nymphomaniac” (the two-part film is composed of eight chapters total), the clip doesn’t feature any of the film’s principal players (Charlotte Gainsbourg, Uma Thurman,
Shia LaBeouf and Stellan Skarsgård). Instead, it follows heroine Joe (Stacy Martin; Gainsbourg plays her in her later years) and her friend B (Sophie Kennedy Clark) as they set their sights on a pair of boys on a train. We can only guess what happens next.

Magnolia Pictures is handling the Stateside release for both the hard and softcore cuts of the film. They have yet to announce a release date. It opens in Denmark on Christmas Day, just in time for family excursions to the cinema. Watch the scene below.

That clip certainly didn't entice me to see more. I have really loved some of his past work (e.g., Dogville), but this seems to be an attempt at juvenile attention mongering. We are in a world literally drowning in hardcore sex on the net, so a commercial film that is quasi-hardcore seems quite boring. Whether there's more to it than that, we have to see more, but it doesn't look promising.
