BAM Artistic Director Florence Almozini Steps Down After 14 Years

After 14 years as Artistic Director and Founding Curator of BAMcinématek, Florence Almozini is stepping down. In an email sent on Tuesday, Almozini said:

“I am writing to you to let you know that, after 14 years, I am leaving
my job as BAMcinématek Program Director and moving on to a new exciting
chapter in my career. Effective Monday, July 8th, I will be joining the
French Embassy, Cultural Services, NYC.

During these last 14
years, I have always felt incredibly lucky to launch and program
BAMcinématek and BAMcinemaFest. And to get to meet all of you! So, a
huge thank you to all of you for having made my work possible and
enjoyable.”

Almozini was a major contributor to raising the profile of Brooklyn’s cinema culture. She brought forth the now 5-year old BAMcinemaFest and helped the year-round BAMcinématek prosper.

This must've been a surprise to her staff… I mean, she would've mentioned this was coming – with someone to take over, even in the interim – at last week's BAM Cinemafest right? At least at the closing screening. I saw her almost every night at the Harvey. Congrats to her.
