Girl on Fire: Ava DuVernay Tapped To Take Over From Lee Daniels to Direct 'Selma'; Lands 'Scandal' Directing Gig

Indiewire Influencer Ava DuVernay is everywhere now, a year following her win for Best Director at Sundance last year for “Middle of Nowhere.”

News broke this week that the filmmaker took over directing duties of “Selma,” the Martin Luther King Jr. feature project that Lee Daniels was once attached to. Deadline reports that David Oyelowo (“The Paperboy”), who starred in “Middle of Nowhere,” is still signed on to play the iconic activist. Making the deal even sweeter: DuVernay was brought on board the project by none other than Brad Pitt and his studio Plan B, along with Pathe UK and producer Christian Colson.

And just yesterday on Twitter, “Scandal” producer Merri D. Howard revealed that DuVernay will be directing an upcoming episode of the ABC series, starring Kerry Washington. The Tweet states that she’s set to helm episode 8 of season three.

Great news on "Selma." Right now, though, what I'd like even more is to find out a DVD date for "Middle of Nowhere," one of last year's best reviewed films that I didn't get to see in theaters.

To tell you the truth. She changed the entire Landscape with "I will Follow" and now more than ever she is leading the change but she is very smart as well as talented

Like I said she got the Tiger by the tail and Ava please don't let go

Great lady. Always nice when I see her at panels and what not. Takes time to talk to people. Good lady. I don't think you can talk about her without talking about the work she does for other directors with AAFFRM. It's nice to see nice things happen to nice people.
