Is Oscar Calling For Cate Blanchett? Watch 2 Clips From Woody Allen's 'Blue Jasmine' Plus New Pics

It’s really kind of remarkable how Woody Allen has been able to keep a “one film per year” pace for pretty much his entire career. While it seems Allen has recently been following a pattern of making one great film every 3-4 years, it’s just been two years since “Midnight In Paris” (his biggest hit to date), and the buzz so far for “Blue Jasmine” has been very encouraging. Two new clips for the film have landed online and, the first one provides a nice glimpse into the main aspect of the film that everyone’s been talking about: Cate Blanchett’s performance.

“Blue Jasmine” features an incredible cast that, along with Blanchett, includes Bobby Cannavale, Andrew Dice Clay, Peter Sarsgaard and Alec Baldwin. But it’s Cate Blanchett, in particular, that has gotten many people excited. Kris Tapley from Hitfix has touted her performance as being “probably the best performance in a Woody Allen film since Sean Penn in 1999’s ‘Sweet and Lowdown.’ ” Meanwhile Showbiz411 is calling her “a cinch for a Best Actress nomination.” Hot damn.

Blanchett plays the titular role in the film. Jasmine has been forced to move in with her sister Ginger, after her marriage to the wealthy Hal (Baldwin) falls apart. As she attempts to rebuild her life, she eventually comes to some realizations about who she really is. We listed “Blue Jasmine” as one of our most anticipated films for the month, surely the news regarding Blanchett’s performance only makes it more of a must-watch.

You can see what all the fuss is about when “Blue Jasmine” comes out on July 26th. Check out the Blachett-oriented clip at EW (we’ll add an embed when we can), along with another featuring co-stars Sally Hawkins and Louis C.K. (via Vulture) followed by some new images from the film.

Critics circles are awarding very Bad actors
Screen Actors awarded Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side besides 4 or 5 Critics circles plus a Golden globe, if an actor did not deserve an award that Was Bullock, keep Razzie away
Penélope Cruz is the worst actress of the world but she got an award in Cannes, an Oscar for Vicky Cristina Barcelona (worst actress in a Woody Allen movie) and 14 or 15 Critics circles, all the critics shared the same expirated wine ?????
Someone can explain Reese Witherspoon case?? an Oscar plus a lot of Critics circles awards, her work Was not Bad, actually Was good but nothing excepcional
Jennifer Lawence, another not Bad work but an Oscar and a lot of Critics recognition????
Weinstein is a genious!!!!!!
Natalie Portman, I can understand the Oscar, the movie got a lot of attention, Who remember if Portman got an Oscar??
Blanchett got an Oscar nomination for Elizabeth The Golden Age almost besides a Razzie, the movie Was a fiasco a her lines in the movie were ridiculous and her work ridiculous bombastic

Cate always so talented and pretty that always makes me see every single movie she is in.

Charlotte

Well she needs to make it seem like she is overracting because the character jasmine at first fakes all her reactions as does not want to show what she truly feels, so it is not like Cate is doing it just because she can't act like others in the comments are saying.

Karen

Sorry but Blanchett has a very artificial acting style, I do not like that, I have seen Before Midnight and the french actress is great, I guess Will be the year of Naomi Watts, anyways after Lawrence victory last year anyone can get an Oscar, that Was ridiculous

BennY

Cate Blanchett is constantly fantastic and always engaging.

For 15 straight years she has given us endlessly fascinating and truly memorable characters like Marissa Wiegler, Queen Elizabeth, Katharine Hepburn, Bob Dylan, Galadriel, Marion Loxley, Daisy, Veronica Guerin, Irina Spalko and on and on and on!

She deserves a Leading Actress Oscar, that's for sure.

Fielding

Just give her the Oscar now. And give Woody another for Screenplay.

Ben

For sure Sally Hawkins Will put the touch of veracity to this movie, we know Blanchett show: exaggerated mannerisms and affected voice, empty inside

Diane

This woman is the worst actress working today

Mina

Cate looks great in this.

Rob lem

Another overacted performa ce of Cate Blanchett

Glen

Presenter Daniel Day Lewis:

And the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role Goes To:

Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine

actually if you look at allen's movies from year to year, he often would nail a great one followed by ok then good then bad then great etc… it's just that today, there's so much opinion and negativity that a fine film like whatever works or to rome with love gets labeled bad when they are actually good flicks… his only bad one in recent memory was cassandras dream and even that has it's fans… back in the 80s90s he did the great Hannah/Sisters followed by the solid but underrated Radio Days… then tanked with September and Another Woman… came back with the amazing Crimes and Misdemeanors followed by misses Alice and Shadows and Fog… followed by the well reviewed Husbands and Wives then solid silly Manhattan Murder Mystery and awesome Bullets Over Broadway then middling Mighty Aphroditie but an oscar performance… nothing has changed… great, good, middling, bad, great perfs… he's awesome

Erik

Sparky obviously hasn't seen Annie Hall, Manhattan, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Hannah and her Sisters, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Radio Days, Broadway Danny Rose, Husbands and Wives, Bullets Over Broadway, Sweet and Lowdown, Zelig, Love and Death or Interiors.

Allen can make one film a year because his scripts are barely first drafts and he hardly takes time to direct his actors. His "great" films are watchable only because of his amazing DP or because every once in a while one of his actors (like Penelope Cruz) will take off on her own direction. (Does anyone believe Allen really wrote the Spanish dialog in that movie?)

Too bad that bag is covering Cate's ass.
