Based on the award winning novel by Meg Rosoff, the film unfurls like a teen romance. Saoirse Ronan (“Hannah,” “Atonement”) stars as Daisy, a withdrawn American teenager sent to live with relatives in the English countryside. Just as Daisy begins to strike up a romance with Edmund (George MacKay), conflict begins to mount in Europe. Daisy’s idyllic summer soon turns into a tale of survival as England enters a violent military state.
“Grandly scaled, beautifully crafted, with a terrific performance from the always great Saoirse Ronan, ‘How I Live Now’ is equally successful as a tense apocalyptic thriller and a great teenage romance,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “We’re very happy to once again be working with Kevin Macdonald, one of the rare filmmakers who excels at both documentary and narrative features.”
The deal was negotiated by Magnolia/Magnet SVP of Acquisitions Dori Begley and Director of Acquisitions Peter Van Steemburg. “How I Live Now” is expected to have a fall theatrical release date.
