I had the script for [the sequel] to School Daze… a contemporary version, same school… 25 years later. Hopefully I can get Laurence Fishburne to play Dap… he’ll be the president now of the school. It would deal with issues in HSBCUs today… some of the same stuff from the last film… like the pledging process… but also lots of new stuff… like homophobia… it’s a big subject in it… class issues, color, hair texture… but it’s stuff happening today.
Words from Spike Lee, live in conversation with the Black&Sexy TV crew on Saturday night, during which he talked primarily about his mystery new project, which he’s financing via Kickstarter- a campaign that’s raised, as of the time of this post, just over $355,000, with 23 days to go to raise $1.25 million.

As for a sequel to School Daze… while not exactly something I’d be immediately high on, I’d certainly be curious.
I actually think School Daze has the potential to be a great Broadway show, especially as we’re starting to see more adaptations of Hollywood films on Broadway (and vice-versa). The film itself had a theatricality to its staging, with the musical numbers and step sequences. I think it’s a near-perfect fit actually.
But I wouldn’t hold my breath for a sequel to the 1988 film. Spike likely wouldn’t be able to get the money for it. He can’t get money to do much else – specifically, his own personal projects.
Here’s the Black&Sexy TV conversation. The School Daze revelation comes at around the 10-minute mark:
