Watch: 1-Hour 'American Masters' Doc On Martin Scorsese Plus 50-Minute Interview Alongside Francis Ford Coppola

It’s a long, hot sweaty holiday weekend, which means you’ll probably be spending a lot of time outdoors. But once you come in out of the sun and are looking for something to spend some time watching, here are two fantastic vintage videos centered on Martin Scorsese that are well worth your time.

First up is the one-hour, 1990 PBS documentary on the director for their excellent “American Masters” series. It’s a fascinating time capsule, created just as “Goodfellas” was about to open and become, at the time, one of the biggest successes of Scorsese’s career. Featuring plenty of behind-the-scenes material from the shoot, the doc focuses on that gangster film, but also the rest of his filmography, with the always fascinatingly talkative Scorsese guiding you through it all. And be sure to keep an eye out for Steven Spielberg who stops by to give his views on the filmmaker as well.

After that, a great 50-minute interview between Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola has also surfaced, and it’s pretty much a must watch. From 1997, this is hosted by Geoffrey Gilmore, who was then the director of the Sundance Film Festival, and it’s an engaging, entertaining chat between the two as they talk about their careers, working in Hollywood, how the studio system has changed and so much more. It’s not often you get those two guys in the same room for this kind of talk, so it’s worth carving out some space for. Check out both videos below. [No Film School/Cinephilia & Beyond]
