Watch: Ben Stiller Takes The Red One In Surprising Trailer For 'The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty'

When word came down that Ben Stiller was remaking Danny Kaye’s 1947 musical fantasy “The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty,” we figured the story — in which a man escapes into his daydreams — was a setup for another “Night At The Museum“-esque jaunt. But, we certainly weren’t expecting this…

The first full trailer for the remake has arrived and it definitely puts a strong emphasis on heart-soaring mood and something with a bit more substance than your average CGI fest. To be sure, this will feature all kinds of effects as hinted at through the trailer, but ‘Mitty’ also seems to want to underscore that it’s a character journey too, with Stiller’s lead looking to secure the love of a woman, played by Kristen Wiig. Also: there is a grizzled Sean Penn in here too. This is certainly operating on a bigger and perhaps more substantial scale than we expected, so consider us intrigued.

There has been talk burbling of an Oscar campaign for the movie — 2013’s “Life Of Pi” for Fox? — and now we can kind of believe it. “The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty” opens on Christmas Day. Oh yeah, the song is “Dirty Paws” by Of Monsters And Men.

Very impressive trailer.

Reminded me a lot of Eternal Sunshine of the SpotlessMind.

I see a few Oscar nominations for this possibly.

Looks VERY impressive!

I was actually in New York about a year and a half ago, and walked by where they were filming the movie. Between takes, when he wasn't looking at footage, Ben Stiller came up and talked to everyone watching and seemed like a really nice guy. I'm glad that the movie looks as good as it does.

Chris

Impressive.

I think is a movies for daydreamers, I hope it doesn't disappoint because the trailer loos great ¬¬

In real life, if Ben Stiller didn't have his choice from at a dozen top line cars, he go into his trailer with his chefs and not come out until the problem was fixed. The man is a complete ass.

I wish movies trailers were like this more often. Its enough to give audiences a strong interest in the film without spoiling anything.

Yo Kevin J.!
Somehow you forgot to mention that this story is based on a James Thurber story. Credit where credit is due. He wasn't all that thrilled by Danny Kaye's performance and was disillusioned with Hollywood anyway.
I think that this is more on-track with Thurber's original idea.

This looks like it could work as a silent film. One of the best trailers I've seen in awhile.

It kind of has that Benjamin Button feel to it and it's not too far out there and the premise is very relate-able. I just had a good feeling watching the trailer like I did with Benjamin Button!

swell

Huh… I'll be damned if that doesn't look solidly watchable.

Jake

Ben Stiller's directorial efforts have always been crazy audacious. Glad this one feels like it's going in similar territory.

Also, Adam Scott's Carlito's Way beard delights me to no end.

The script by Steve Conrad was beautiful.

Looks like Stiller did a good job with it.

That's really nice, looks like a music video but it's not a bad thing.
