WATCH: First Trailer for Ben Stiller's Oscar Hopeful 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'

The first trailer for Ben Stiller’s “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” in which he also stars, debuted to “Wolverine” audiences this past weekend, and now has been unveiled online. In the whimsical teaser, we see Stiller’s Life Magazine journalist Mitty leading an alternate fantasy life of mountain scaling, building jumping and helicopter riding. Sean Penn, Kristen Wiig (as Mitty’s love interest) and Adam Scott also make appearances.

Patton Oswalt, Shirley MacLaine — as Mitty’s mother who points out that the travel journal given to him by his father remains empty — and Kathryn Hahn also star.

We were impressed from the early footage we saw of the film at CinemaCon; we wrote at the time that “what’s great about this updated story of a daydreamer is that the movie allows full rein (like “Slumdog
Millionaire”) to cut anywhere, anytime, into full-blown fantasies. Where
this one seems to depart from the original is
that it allows our hero to act out his dreams and become a man.”

The film, which hits theaters December 25, is based on the classic New Yorker short story by James Thurber. It was previously made into the 1947 film by Norman Z. McLeod, starring Danny Kaye, Virginia Mayo and Boris Karloff.

I'm just curious…what makes this an "Oscar hopeful"? really, just wondering. in what sense? for acting? writing? directing? that trailer doesnt give too much in any respect…maybe in cinematography because it does look really nice.
