Watch: Here's the First Trailer for Steve McQueen's '12 Years a Slave'

Steve McQueen’s first film since the 2011 “Shame” promises to pack another wallop. John Ridley adapted the screenplay for “12 Years a Slave” from the memoirs of Solomon Northrup, an African-American who was born a free man and kidnapped into slavery. The cast includes Brad Pitt (who also produced the film) along with Benedict Cumberbatch, “Shame” and “Hunger” star Michael Fassbender, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Northrup.

Fox Searchlight has set an October 18 release date for the awards contender — up from its original slot of December 27.

Incredibly reckless to sacrifice the safety of a group of people over an hyper exaggerated art piece loosely based on a glimpse in history. While these actors go home to Beverly Hills, normal white people go home and become targets of an increasingly violent hyper sensitive racist black youth that are killing whites at a growing rampant number. daily

It's hard to tell from the trailer, but if McQueen brings his incredible aesthetic as seen in "Hunger" and "Shame," this will be a knockout. His formalism and keen observation of the character's "space" will, I hope, make the trailer just that – a tease to what's coming. OK, I'm a McQueen fan. Enough said. (Fassbender and Ejiofor, too)

I thought Omar was in this?
