“The Spectacular Now” should be on your list of movies to see next month. Our own Rodrigo Perez enjoyed the film when he caught it at Sundance earlier this year, calling it a “darker, sadder, and pained” version of “(500) Days of Summer.” Recently, a wealth of material’s been released, from the trailer to posters and images in anticipation of its release.
Outside of the trailer, the first clip for the film has dropped and it’s touted as director James Ponsoldt’s (“Smashed“) favorite scene. It depicts the first kiss between bad-boy Sutter Keely (Miles Teller) and nice girl Aimee Finicky (Shailene Woodley). Both actors have a natural chemistry, and it’s surprising to hear teenagers actually talk like teenagers. The sequence was filmed in one continuous take, and it’s a testament to the actors that they’re effortless in their movements.
The clip is included below and “The Spectacular Now” opens on August 2nd.
