First out of the gate on October 11th is Paul Greengrass’ sure to be harrowing “Captain Phillips,” in which Hanks plays Captain Richard Phillips, whose American cargo ship was hijacked by Somali pirates in 2009. And next up on December 13th, Hanks plays Walt Disney himself in the Mouse House’s heart-warmer “Saving Mr. Banks,” directed by “The Blind Side” helmer John Lee Hancock. The trailer for the latter just landed online today, via Moviefone.
Inspired by true events, the film tells the story of how “Mary Poppins” came to be the family classic it is today — and the testy relationship Disney had with author P.L. Travers (a feisty Emma Thompson, said to be amazing in the film) that almost derailed it. Watch the trailer below and go here for our 2014 Oscar Predictions where “Saving Mr. Banks” is listed as a surefire Oscar nominee for Best Picture.
