After being introduced as an experiment in last year’s Venice International Film Festival, the Orizzonti section’s Web
Theatre returns. This virtual online theater screens a selection of films playing concurrently on the Lido, but made available to audiences around the world.
The Web Theatre has a maximum “seating capacity” of 500
seats for each showing. There will be only one screening for each film, located on the secure site curated by Festival Scope, on behalf of the Venice fest.
Digital tickets will be available for purchase starting in August on the Biennale website. To view a film of choice, the user registers on the website, pays for the ticket (4.20 euro), at which point he or she will receive a personal link that will be good for one viewing only. Each film (in the original version with English subtitles) will be available for streaming within 24 hours, starting at 9:00pm (Italian time) on the day of the film’s official presentation on the Lido.
The Orizzonti section is a showcase for “innovative aesthetic and expressive trends” in international cinema. The section features films made by both young and well-established directors, and leans toward genre and creative originality.
The complete Orizzonti section lineup to be available online will be announced July 25.
