Her perspective suggests she has an axe to grind. I think she’s pathetic.

Rae Dawn Chong is just telling it is from her perspective. Hey, you have to give her props for that because in 2014 not many people will take on "the BIG O". Yet another reason Rae Dawn has been ostracized by the vast majority of the Black community is, and this is the straight-up truth, Rae happens to prefer Caucasian males. Preferring White men is risky in today's society because the one group who is politically correct to excoriate in any situation is the Caucasian male and because Rae Dawn chooses to have a Caucasian man's baby, well, that makes her fair game by the Black community. Hang in there, Rae Dawn. Love the one your with, baby !

I remember a few years ago maybe two or three years ago Oprah had the cast of the color purple on for a reunion and Rae Dawn Chong was on the panel. Chong is a real phony she hugged, kissed, Oprah, gave her lots of praise. Now Rae is making these nasty comments about Oprah. Girl let it go LOL! 1985 was a very long time ago! Oprah is very powerful and very well connected, I think Rae Dawn Chong is making a fool out of herself she's a has been she had her moment in the spotlight but now it is over.

NO BRAINER

You morons really hate when people speak their minds. Well, I love her honesty. I may not agree with her but she is being real about how she feel and no one should try to reprimand her unless you're Oprah or close friends and family of Oprah.

Monique A Williams

Rae Dawn Chong hasn't been successful because she thought she was too cute to brown nose and that her dads name was enough. Her characterization of Oprah as the cheerleader, student body president, volunteer nurse brownnoser is someone successful, a striver. She threw in fat repeatedly to make it negative, and more interesting, but it's really jealousy at its finest. Nothing shocking st all.

Xi

She had to consider the possibility of her comments being compared to "you ain't nothin but a big ole heifer…." No? Did no one else hear that?

Good Lawd!

Rae Dawn Chong is a typical mean girl/bitter woman. She said nothing wonky. She explained that she was pissed at Oprah for having Arnold on her show and not her. She equated it to Oprah being jealous of her working on the movie Commando. So because she felt some kind of way about Oprah not inviting her onto the show, although she was backstage, she lets out her frustration and venom by demeaning Oprah's looks, skin tone, and weight. But because Oprah is the success she is, she insured she said flattering things about her accomplishments……although she feels Oprah sacrificed character to get where she is. blah, blah, blah.

Typical run-of-the-mill black mean girl who takes a public opportunity cut up.

Here is some history for you that has nothing to do with personal judging:

Oprah was a popular local TV anchor in 1985 who loved the Alice Walker book, the Color Purple
Rae Dawn was an actress and had filmed at least 10 things by 1985.
Rae Dawn filmed Commando in April of 1985 (45 days) and it came out in October 1985,
Both ladies filmed Color Purple during the summer of 1985 and came out December 1985.
The Oprah Winfrey Show first aired September of 1986………after Arnold and Oprah's good pal from B-more news station, Maria Shriver, got married.

Now, look at these history facts, listen to Ms. Chong and make of it what you will.

Okay sheep, y'all can stop following Tambay's lead.

I am agreeing with EDWINA from Chicago. Nothing Rae Dawn Chong said was strange, unusual nor out of place. In fact, if she was smoking crack, as some have suggested, what does that say about all the rest ** looking around the room** who have voiced unkind words about Oprah (like the many on this site)? I guess this blog is a cover for a dope house and Tambay is the pusherman -huh? Bad machine, super mean, feelin' good for the man, Superfly he stands. Another junkie plan, pushin' dope for the man. A freddies on the corner now. If you wanna be a junkie, why. Remember freddie is dead

So spare me, Ms. Chong's opinion was filled with balance. And, it should be noted that she was talking from a point of personal reference (her experience with Oprah) not some she-said-he-said. In other words, she wasn't relying on words from our resident gossip hound from Chicago, Sergio Mims. Nope, if one is really honest (and not swayed by Tampay's dope) it's highly likely Oprah would have been a field nigga. I mean, is that a surprise or something to feel ashamed of?

And furthermore, truth be told, who hasn't run into the fat chick who tries very hard to be every-damn-bodies-freakin'-friend? You've seen those types, the best suck-ups in the world. But hey, as Rae said, it has served Oprah very well. I've said this many time, in spite of Oprah's alleged character flaws, she's arguably the greatest women to have ever walked this earth.

So again, I agree with Edwina… "I think she's very straightforward… being honest… she gave Oprah big props… nothing I hadn't heard before… being from Chicago, talking about Oprah is an ongoing convo." YEP!

Wasn't she just on Oprah a few years ago for The Color Purple reunion? She was hugging O and smiling. Come on now. This is so ratchet. Whatever happened between them… it has been 25 years, let it go.

As for the field negro comment, newsflash light skinned slaves were in the field and in the house. The same goes for darker skinned slaves. This idiot needs to learn her history.

I guess she feels like since her ex C. Thomas Howell's career is rising now is her time. Nope. You are messing with Oprah…..fall back.

lost on the irony

looks like the fat dark skinned would have been a field negro beat the skinny light skinned house negro chick to one of the largest pieces of the world pie. perhaps she resents the fact that her social privilege of being skinny light skinned brings her no social value relative to oprah. oops. sux to be u. especially when you're oprah.

@JayTeeDee

Since Commando?!!!! Damn that's a long ass time to be holding a grudge. And with Oprah?!! RDC has really lost her mind

ScriptTease

After all these years, why now? Perhaps she was basking in knowing that Oprah's Network wasn't doing to well, and now that it's an Emmy Nominated network, she decides to open up about her bad history with Oprah… who knows.

urbanauteur

Ask Spike Lee…

say what?

Uh oh. Holy career suicide. Don't mess with Queen O. Any glimmer of a future acting career for Miss RDC was just extinguished by own venomous words toward the most powerful woman in entertainment.. As Bill Duke would say, "Ya know ya done f*cked up now, right."'

blah blah

As someone, who grew up looking towards Oprah as one of my sheroes, I'm not offended by what RDG said. It was harsh and she probably could have peppered her opinion better than what she did but I think we all know of the one girl/woman, who goes out of their way to make white folks – or any person of authority – feel comfortable in hopes of gaining favor. I don't know if Oprah is that personally (because I never met her) but I'm saying I get what RDG is describing.

Mr. Marin

Isn't this the same Rae Dawn Chong that rather call herself a "NEW BREED" instead of acknowledging her Black descent? Now she's speaking for people in the struggle and calling out Oprah? 'The Color Purple' and 'Commando' was a LONNNNNG time ago. It's quiet for Ms. Chong speaking for us when she doesn't even want to be associated. As far her vocab to describe Oprah, it's uncalled for a very high school cafeteria-esque. There is a proper way she could've went about this.

rose

"Harpo who dis woman" after all these years now!!! This is perfect for publicity though, no one under 30 might not even recognize this lady so she tried it and now people are talking about her . Oprah will ignore her and people will look up Rae Dawn Chong on IMDB.

Ellen

Lol @ the comments about a woman of a "certain size" and calling Oprah the fat chick. That's typically what dried up skinny bitches who hate resort to when they are jealous about someone who has more going on in their thought-process than what they look like. She's saying that Oprah is successful and a "brown-noser" because she is fat. Jesus.

So, Squeak, does that mean that you are unsuccessful and envious because you are skinny?

Also, it leads one to wonder how the person she "respects" so much for all that she has done can still, in the same breath, be "all about Oprah." How does that work? How can you do a lot for others and "change the DNA of the world" and still be all about yourself? Squeak, sit yo ass down and find a rehab center, stat! There are so many things about Oprah that irritate me, but these interview clips from a black woman talking about another black woman with laughing white men instigating the situation sicken me.

ALM

In hope that TMZ has confirmed that this is her voice, because the floodgates are about to open. I am actually wondering if this is some type of ploy for publicity/attention, because no one under 25 knows who this woman is, and IMDB shows that the movie that she is referencing, "Commando", was made in 1985. I barely have heard of her myself.

What’s sad is that she sounds so sincere. She says that Oprah’s life is a “miracle”.

And who is this “we” in the struggle? Chong clearly makes the point that Oprah is a vile overweight unattractive woman. If Oprah is all of those things, then surely Chong wouldn’t want to be included in the same group with her.

Drugs are bad kids.

I’m just waiting on the response from Oprah. She, like Shonda Rhimes, is a master at classy shade. Oprah can cut this woman down without cursing, without using profanity, etc.

And if a person is so "vile", I'm going to need you to give me better examples than this. something better than your treatment surrounding a movie that is almost 30 years old. You're also going to have a problem proving to the entire world that a woman who has probably given a quarter of a billion dollars to other people of ALL race between her own money and the Angel network is selfish.

Everyone on this planet has someone that does not care for them. Maybe something in their personalities just clashed, but the shade she is throwing at Oprah is extra. Oprah can (and has in the past) lost weight. She should lose weight (only if she wants to) for health reasons only, not because society or Hollywood says that she should.

And the darker shade comments……based on the conversations online, Chong may want to steer clear of the streets. People continue to say that darker skin is a negative thing/failure. A lot of people are not taking kindly to this type of talk.

What do mean what's wrong with her! Obviously she had a f'd up experience with Oprah. I don't understand why that means something has to be wrong with her. Apparently Oprah must be too good in your eyes to the the f'd up one, or is it that her status masks that so well, that it's being completely overlooked.

Edwina

Well…I think she's a very straightforward person and she's just being honest about her thoughts and experiences with and about Oprah. Painfully so. She gave Oprah big props for her achievements, said more than once that she respects her tremendously, nothing she said was just out-and-out vicious or meanspirited. It just wasn't very nice. And nothing I hadn't heard before while sitting around talking with my girlfriends. Being from Chicago, talking about Oprah is an ongoing convo.

donnadara

I think she was high or drunk. I love her, I hate her, she's vile, I respect her. Really incoherent.

mk

Sounds like a bad loser

ChgoSista

Peggy, 'The Color Purple' was…1985. Not saying Ms. Chong is not being truthful, but why N-O-W? Who gives a damn NOW?

Lauren

She must have been on crack or off her meds…. envy's a bitch.

ChgoSista

What in the MF? Whaaaaaaat? Huh? WHY? Was she smokin' some of that "Cheech & Chong" during this? One minute Oprah's "this and that," and then the other minute, you "respect her?" HEAD SCRATCHER, INDEED!!!!!

Peggy

She's funny. She's got an ax to grind. If Oprah treated her that way I don't blame her saying that. Who knows?

sosgemini

She done gone off the deep in. That's what's wrong with her. :smh:
