Tweeter Stallone Exploits Willis vs. Ford Millions To Sell 'Expendables 3'

So Bruce Wills has outraged Sylvester Stallone because he
turned down the offer to shoot four days on “The Expendables 3” in Bulgaria for
$3 million. “Uh-hh,” said Bruce, in a way that has made his reputation on screen,
even in “Expendables” pictures. “If it’s four days I want $4 million.” The Hollywood Reporter “Insider” was quoted
as saying, “I think Willis was pretty surprised he was replaced in 72 hours by
Harrison Ford — a better actor, a much nicer person and a more interesting
direction for the film.”

Can we talk?

Do we have the remotest idea whether Harrison Ford is “a
much nicer person” than Bruce? And do we care?

When did anyone
mention the topic of “acting” with these films?

What sum did Ford take for four days on “The Expendables 3”?
Was it $37.50 a day? Was it scale? Was it a beautiful set of Shaker furniture?
Was it the original $3 million which, if you’ll excuse the preposterous
concept, must have been a budgeted item? So, if someone didn’t get $3 million
for four days, the money was going free and Sly has never seen a floating $3
million he didn’t admire.

So $4 million for
four days is in a different class of absurd from $3 million for four days?

And “Expendables” 1 and
2 (it may be I and II) grossed $500 million worldwide?

Plus who can possibly imagine a direction, let alone a “more
interesting direction,” in these films?

Put all these factors together and can we surmise that in
the name of a spurious nicety of etiquette among these people, there has been a
shot of “Expendables” promo injected into our moribund system? And we are idiots
enough to go along with it?

Meanwhile, Sly is tweeting (I can think of days when the
Stallion would have been mortified to think of himself tweeting instead of
making Spartacus-like proclamations from the steps of City Hall in
Philadelphia), “Expendables Looking Fresh and Strong.”

Fresh and Strong. I
seem to recall a time when those admittedly vague words carried some
meaning, like “movie” and “entertainment.”

jesus what a pretentious poser you are, everything about your article reeks of a failed journalist

Jean-Claude Van Damme drew me in for EXPENDABLES 2 and I wasn't disappointed. Steven Seagal will be the draw in EXPENDABLES 3, not Ford.

"So $4 million for four days is in a different class of absurd from $3 million for four days?" You're completely missing the point. Of course $3 million for 4 days is absurd. That's why Stallone got understandably pissed at Willis for wanting MORE. Just as he said, "greedy and lazy."

Harrison Ford? Seriously? Might as well have replaced him with a mannequin…at least a mannequin can act better than Ford. I won't be seeing #3. I was tired of Ford's mono-character acting back in the Start Wars days. Seriously. Do you really see any difference in his character from ANY of his movies? Just different dialog. He's barely one step ahead of Costner, the all-time drone of acting. And of course Ford would take less…he's WORTH less! Typical Stallone…pay as little as he can for a movie so he racks in all the profits himself as actor, producer, etc..

What worthless article.
Thank you for wasting my time. Both the time I spent reading this and the time I now must spend replying because such a worthless article required it.
You love hearing yourself talk, don't you?
Tip: Just because you use a thesaurus doesn't mean you have anything interesting to say.

Why am I not surprised that no one knows who the great David Thompson is. Thank goodness for film Uni.

Gizbom

The movie will be great, so why not write about that? Ford will bring a cool change, so that is cool. The real story will revolve around Stathem and Stallone, so everyone else is just a bonus.

Anne Thompson

There comes a point in every actor's life where self-loathing is attached to having to get paid for these big commercial entertainments. So many of these guys think getting paid is some measure of their stardom. Harrison Ford has often said that he does it for the money, that to get him out of his comfortable country manse and onto a physically demanding set is worth a lot to him. Remember, Ford turned down the Michael Douglas role in Traffic! Both of these guys still worry about their stardom. But how depressing that Reds 2 and Expendables 3 and Die Hard whatever are all that anyone wants to pay Willis to do. So maybe he was feeling dread at going to the Stallone set for a third time and wanted out. Willis has done his fair share of Tarantino and indie movies, so I say they should both follow Matthew McConaughey's lead and go indie. These actors are capable of so much more than this! Why destroy their souls with this stuff? How much money do they need? George Clooney is right, he wants someone to look at his David Thomson Biography of Film entry and think he made a lot of good movies. And people, Thomson is one of the great film critics and you should treat him with respect, I am delighted to have him on the site whenever he wants to be here.

Great article, definitely captures the mentality of those privileged hollywood types who forgot where they came from and how they got to where they are today, talent alone doesn't make you a star it's THE PEOPLE, THE PEOPLE!!

My deepest regrets for some of my misspellings in my two prior rants! Ha! But you see, my full time editor is off today and I'm in such a joyous tizzy about all this nonsense, the very funny article, and the moronic comments that I can hardly contain myself, let along bother with proof reading my exicited responses to it all. Please, please forgive me.
To those who 'know' not of irony…the above is a complete example of the concept!!!

Just to add to my rant below…ha! The article was also very funn and filled with irony. Irony! Something fools and morons no not of! Great pity to live a life without embracing and loving irony! My hat is off to the writer. Thanks for the very amusing article.

Bo

My goodness, the lack of intelligence is these first few comments caused my jaw to drop in total amazement. Here I thought the article was right on the money with a very intelligent look at all this silliness surrounding Stallone and 'his' movie and using ole Willis and his name to promote and sell his 'said' movie. Plus, the movie(s) are pure junk and not worth a second of any intelligent person's time! The writer knows the biz, as it were, and the game these very, very rich men are playing and ignorant people then slam him for having the knowledge they lack? What a world! The article was just what I've been thinking for the past few days this nonsense hit the media and wondered if anyone else in the business would eventually chime in with some smart take on what this might be all about. If you do not 'understand' this article or slam it out of ignorance the lesson for might be to educate yourself and stay silent concerning things you haven't a clue about. Jeez! It's always amusing to hear morons accusing others of being morons!

SVEN

DAVID THOMSON…. who cares what you think !?

Matthew

I never take time to comment on an article under normal circumstances….but this article was a terrible read. It's written so bad that I literally had a disgusted look on my face by the end of it. I read a few other comments and realized I was not alone in my opinion that the article sucked.

Eddie

Is this article a joke? I cannot understand it. Though I must point out that this piece received more comments than most of IndieWire's articles.

Kallum

This writer is a moron!

Tom

what a stupid writer
