Three hours ago a woman texting was in the wrong lane and nearly hit our car head-on. (I was a passenger.) I could see her face glued to her phone at the steering wheel as she sped towards us; that's how close she was before we braked and swerved away. I turned and watched in horror as she continued on behind us—oblivious– and nearly hit a second car. I don't think she ever looked up. We are ALL being seduced by the ridiculous lure of pseudo communication. Put the gadgets down. Thank you, Werner Herzog, for opening a conversation that should have never been necessary. Drive. Talk on the phone. Either. Or.
