Watch: Spike Lee Dishes On All-Things Spike Lee w/ 'The Breakfast Club'

Yes I know, I know. I can hear it already: “What ANOTHER piece on Spike Lee???”

It does seem like S & A has become all things Spike of late. Just like it was all things Tyler a few months ago, or all things Steve McQueen. There are certain filmmakers who command attention from time to time. That’s the way of the world.

But let’s face it. Spike, as I said two weeks ago, regarding that “argument” he had with that anchor on Bloomberg TV, is the master of publicity. He knows how to get it and he does it every well indeed.

So to that end, thanks to the vigilant eyes of S & A’s own Emmanuel Akitobi, Spike yesterday appeared on the popular New York radio station Power 105.1 on their morning The Breakfast Club show talking about all things Spike.

The extensive three part interview runs for about 40 minutes and you can watch the first part below. You can access the other two segments on the same YouTube page:

Serge, I know this is off topic, but WHERE is today's mention of Spike getting FIRED off the James Brown pic? I ask YOU since you seemed the most vehement concerning his defense.

Honestly, you Spike fans are starting to resemble Republican Bush supporters with every passing day. I suppose you will tell me he was fired because of "racism", and it had NOTHING to do with his stunted ability to communicate as a creative person.

Okay, three times a charm: this is the last time I'm posting this. I'm sure Spike has some redeeming qualities (to broke-ass actors and film-school directors wearing X hats.)

I believe Spike Lee deserves at least as much, if not more access to share information on S&A, as Quentin Tarantino. Last fall, it was almost all Tarantino all the time.

As a 25 year film veteran who's shown dedication and passion to African American film, Spike is entitled to the real estate.

I'm concerned that the Kickstarter campaign will distract from promotion for Oldboy though. Oldboy's just two months away from release. I notice that its got about thirteen overseas markets and I'm convinced the movie will do well in Russia, France, Italy, and UK. I hope the studio is planning a release in Mexico and South Korea.

Spike Lee is going to reach his goal and do the film. The people saying what if you don't like the film, you missed the point of what Spike Lee was saying when he was talking about his body of work. You know you are going to get a film with a director who is going to give it his best and have his own point of view and not water it down, that's what you want from an artist. Even the films Spike Lee has made that people don't like that much, they can't be dismissed, people still discuss and debate them.

Loved 95% of his films Loved to death The 25th Hour, can't wait for this one also, love the campaign. I tuned into this site when I saw it was new article on Spike so, but hey that just me not for the masses, just like his work and there are a lot of other filmmakers whose work I love too!

I would argue that Spike Lee is one of the very few instantly recognizable film directors in the world and has been consistantly so for over 25 years. I'll bet most people don't even know what James Cameron or Michael Bay looks like. It take someone really good at getting publicity to do that

It doesn't take a "master" to get publicity. Just run your mouth, say or do something that would be considered controversial and you'll get your publicity especially if you're already someone who people think is "controversial." Yawn. Good luck to Spike on the new joint but I can't wait for when the movie comes out and it's Red Hook Summer part 2, and all those folks who contributed to the campaign will be pissed off. So Spike had better bring it because he stands to lose even more credibility if he doesn't. He'll never be able to run another Kickstarter campaign ever again.
