Lee Daniels Teaming w/ Brian Grazer On FOX Drama Series About Family-Run Hip-Hop Empire

Director Lee Daniels is re-teaming with his The Butler writer, Danny Strong, and super producer Brian Grazer, to bring a hip hop drama series to television.

The untitled project, which reportedly sparked a bidding war among the 4 major broadcast networks, has received a pilot commitment from FOX, and is described as a drama series about a family-run hip-hop empire.

Danny Strong will pen the pilot script, which Lee Daniels will direct, with Strong, Daniels, Grazer and Francie Calfo executive producing.

If the series is picked up to series by FOX, or another network, it’ll mark Lee Daniels’ initial foray into episodic TV.

I’m actually intrigued by the premise, so let’s see how this goes.

Daniel’s next big screen project Janis Joplin biopic and maybe more.

Some have been made and released; others remain in limbo.

But it looks like Daniels will be the long-in-development Janis Joplin biopic titled Get It While You Can, which Amy Adams is attached to star in.

@PK I thought the same thing. I remember that Platinum show and that's exactly what I thought of when I read this post.

This sounds HORRIBLE! ugh, and just when Daniels seemed to be gaining some real creative traction. It's like he's having a Tyler Perry moment. WTF?

Doesn't sound interesting at all. I see it full of stereotypes. I am not sold on Lee Daniels just yet. But I will tune in to check it out.

Sounds somewhere in the realm of the short lived UPN drama "Platinum" with Sticky Fingaz and Jason George from "Eve".
