'Peeples' Writer, Director Tina Gordon Chism Developing Comedy Series For HBO

It was just announced that Tyler Perry’s Peeples writer and director, Tina Gordon Chism,
is currently developing a comedy project for HBO to be called Crushed.

According to THR, the projected series deals with an African-American family who
stumbles into a successful wine business in Napa. The fish-out-water story
follows the family’s unorthodox approach to wine making and their unique life
style.

Ms. Chism will executive produce along with Stephanie
Allain Bray
, with C. Deneen Brown co-producing.

No word yet as to casting, or when the series will
premiere; though one assumes it will be sometime next year.

We’ll be keeping tabs on the project of course.

How did I miss this post?

Tina did a great job with Peeples, but, as with Tambay's surprise at hearing the great numbers Tyler Perry's Have Nots is receiving, which had him admitting that he didn't know anything anymore, I too don't know anything about my black folks anymore.

I mean, I know the pleasure Tyler's crowd receives from his films, I get that. But for the life of me, I can not figure out why some folks didn't enjoy the witty, clever,well-written, sexy, coonery-less, funny as hell rom-com, Peeples. Listen, I watched it (with my lady, my mother, sister and brother, we all laughed so hard we had to wipe tears from our eyes) when it first came out…and I rented it tonight, to do it one-mo-again. And, I laughed my ass off all over again. Kerry Washington was sexy, funny and quite believable as daddy's little girl. The two actresses who played the lesbians (in the closet) were ou-la-la and acted their asses off. Craig Robinson, David Allen Grier, S. Epatha Merkerson and the kid Tyler James Williams, ALL had great lines that had me rollin'. I'm tellin' y'all, I just don't understand my people any more. That film was one of the most clever, well written, different (which is a good thang) and funniest black rom-coms that I've seen in quite some time.

Anyway, Tina certainly deserve another place to shine. I am sure she'll do a great job.

After how disappointing Peeples was, I am very hesitant.

Now this sounds like a good idea. Between this announcement and the announcements about Issa Rae, I may have to pony up for the premium cable package.
