Former Disney Animator Ron Husband Gears Up To Direct First Feature Film

Former Disney Animator Ron Husband Gears Up To Direct First Feature Film

His name may not be familiar to most people, but in the
animation world Ron Husband is a
legend.

The first black animator for Walt Disney, Husband started out at the studio as a trainee
in 1975, and moved through the ranks
as an in-betweener, breakdown artist, assistant animator, animator, and eventually
supervising animator.

Husband worked on practically every major animated fim
that Disney made from the mid-70’s to the late 2000’s such as (get ready,  it’s long list) Rescuers, Pete’s Dragon, Fox and Hound, Black Cauldron, Great Mouse
Detective, Oliver & Co., The Little Mermaid, Rescuers Down Under, Aladdin,
Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, Atlantis, Fantasia 2000
and Treasure
Planet.

However after 38 years at Disney, Husband has decided to
hang up his hat at the studio, but that doesn’t mean he’s going out fishing. In
fact, Husband is gearing up to direct his first animated feature film.

According to his son Jai
Anthony-Lewis Husband,
who’s an animator himself based in Atlanta, Ron is already in
pre-production to direct his son’s feature.

According to Jai’s Facebook page he posted: “Can’t
believe I just had a pre-production meeting with my father who is directing my
next film…incredible!”

However, at this point, no other info is available.

Ron also has a new book out next week titled Quick Sketching with Ron Husband, published
by Focal Press, and has even started
his own blog which you can read HERE.

Of course when we get more info about this joint feature
project with his son we’ll pass it along.

Congratulations to Ron Husband for stepping outside his comfort zone. Looking forward to his directorial debut. Any word on the name of the project would be great! Thanks.
