Lionsgate Buys Interracial Comedy Feature Pitch From Gary Anthony Williams, Jeannie Roshar

With his writing partner Jeannie RosharGary Anthony Williams (known for providing the voice of Uncle Ruckus on The Boondocks, for his work on Weeds and Boston Legal, and much more) has sold an interracial romantic comedy feature pitch to Lionsgate, titled I Own You.

Centered on the peaks and valleys of an interracial couple, I Own You is said to be based on a 2008 short film of the same name that the duo also wrote and starred, with Anthony Williams directing.
Whether Williams will also direct this feature film adaptation of the short, remains to be see. Currently, there’s no director attached.
It’s not even a definite that Williams and Roshar will reprise their roles in the feature. What’s certain is that they’ll pen the script for it.
Williams and Roshar co-founded the LA Comedy Shorts Festival, by the way.

There's a website for the short; just google it. There's no trailer, but you can get an idea about the tone and story from the photos and the synopsis. Let the high-jinks ensue!

Williams wrote and directed the short film.

I'm a big fan of Williams – he needs to be on a sitcom like yesterday – but I'm a little leery of the juxtaposition of the film's title and subject matter. Looking forward to hearing more…or even watching the original short.

I hope at some point soon media types will stop using the term "Interracial" to be replaced by "Intercultural," which is actually a more apt term since "race" as applied to human beings doesn't really exist. What is really being said I guess is that one person has dark skin and the other does not. Is it their "skin color" which makes the difference, the dividing line or their "culture?" What's the point? Is it a comedy about people from different worlds? Is that where the comedy lies? If that is the case their "color" is the least important point.

Son of a BITCH! One year ago I pitched an idea EXACTLY like this one to those straight-to-VOD hotshots called, "I Love Me Kissin On Some White Chicks."

DAMMIT Hollywoood is no joke.
