'Philomena,' Starring Dench and Coogan, Nabs Stateside Release

The Weinstein Company has slated Stephen Frears’ “Philomena,” starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, for a November 22 stateside release. The film gained terrific awards buzz out of Venice and Toronto for Dench’s performance as a mother who enlists a journalist in Washington to help find her long-lost son.

November 22 is the limited date for Los Angeles and New York, with an expansion planned for November 27, in time for Thanksgiving.

Coogan co-penned the script with Jeff Pope after reading an article about the real-life woman, Philomena Lee, who undertook the search for the son she’d given up for adoption decades earlier. Watch the trailer here, and a humorous clip from the film here. Our TOH! review of the film is here.
