We can’t remember the last time a blockbuster movie took such a stretch between shooting and being released, but it seems Warner Bros. are taking their time with “Mad Max: Fury Road.” That said, it seems that whatever is brewing, they are confident enough to release it into one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory.
After lensing started in fall 2012 (and quickly fell behind schedule), and with additional shooting slated for this month, director George Miller will have plenty of time to put it all together with the studio stamping a May 15, 2015 release date for the movie. That will put it in theaters two weeks after “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” and one week before Brad Bird‘s “Tomorrowland,” making for one helluva movie sandwich.
As you know Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough and more star in this effort that might start a new trilogy, and will of course arrive in post-converted 3D. And oh yeah, despite our being told otherwise by his reps, Deadline says that “Mel Gibson is back too—but not as the lead.” Various reports over the past months have stated Gibson is playing a role only known as Drifter, but could that drifter be the original Max himself?
Anyway, lots of time to ponder that and catch up with the original movies until 2015, but we have to wonder if there will be even more additional shooting along the way as ‘Fury Road’ continues…
