1. Netflix Acquires ‘The Square:’ Netflix officially announced the acquisition of “The Square” today, and
plans for an early, exclusive 2014 premiere on the service in all
territories. The documentary is currently in the midst of an
Oscar-qualifying theatrical run, which means that the Emmys aren’t the
only awards Netflix could be making its way into, according to Indiewire’s Alison Willmore. Read Willmore’s full story on the acquisition here.

2. Top Indies in iTunes: Each Monday we present you with the most up-to-date list of Top 10
(Indie) Movies in iTunes (this list combines rentals and purchases). The

big addition to the list this week is “Frances Ha,” the Noam
Baumbach-directed film starring Greta Gerwig, which landed at number 9
in its first week on iTunes. “Girl Most Likely” and “Stuck in Love”

3. Amazon Originals: Amazon will make its official entry into the world of original
programming this month with the launches of its first two half-hour comedy series “Alpha House” and “Betas” this month.  Interestingly, unlike Netflix,
Amazon won’t be releasing full seasons all at once. Amazon will release the first three episodes of
each series for free via Amazon Instant Video
 on Kindle Fire, iPad, iPhone, Roku, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Wii U, and the web. Read the full story here.

5. Amazon Kindle Sale: To celebrate the FAA’s new rules allowing portable electronic devices to stay on during the take offs and landings of commercial flights in the U.S., Amazon is offering a  special one-day discount Monday. “We’ve been fighting for our customers on this issue for years, and
we are thrilled by the FAA’s recent decision,” said Amazon vice
president Drew Herdener in a statement. “This is a big win for
customers.”
