Angela Bassett Just Might Be Returning For ‘American Horror Story’ Season 4

Angela Bassett Just Might Be Returning For 'American Horror Story' Season 4

Your prayers have been answered!

On the heels of news earlier this week that FX has ordered a 4th season of its hit supernatural drama series American Horror Story, comes word that this seasons new cast additions – Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates specifically – will very likely be returning for a second trip down *dysfunction* lane, whenever season 4 goes into production.

The news was revealed by series co-creator Ryan Murphy, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

His words:

“I have approached them and they wanna do it […] That’s very exciting when you can work with A.) actresses you’ve always idolized and B.) those two are loving this season. They love what they get to do. Kathy Bates sent the writers a basket of plush toys all in the shapes of disemboweled organs. It doesn’t get better than when an Oscar winner sends you a grab bag of stuffed pancreas to say ‘Thank you and job well done.’”

Of course, his above quote doesn’t necessarily guarantee anything, but if both sides are in agreement, one can assume mutually-satisfactory deals will be negotiated and signed, and both actresses will be back for season 4, which will likely debut during the fall of 2014.

FX ordered 13 episodes.

The series’ current season American Horror Story: Coven is averaging 7.74 million total viewers, per episode, outpacing last season’s installment by a staggering 83% in total viewers. With 9 episodes left in the season, American Horror Story: Coven is on track to record some of the strongest ratings of any program in FX history. Coven’s first two episodes were the highest-rated single telecasts in delivery of Adults 18-34 in FX’s history. Coven also ranks as the highest-rated miniseries of 2013 in delivery of Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.

This season’s cast includes, in addition to Bassett and Bates: Jessica LangeSarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sidibe, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, Denis O’Hare, Jamie Brewer, Alexander Dreymon, Josh Hamilton, Patti LuPone, and Danny Huston.

It is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television.

Season 4 is about the time that Murphy's shows become completely unwatchable, though this series reached that point early in season 1, and Glee reached it when it was announced. But as long as there's the requisite amount of cable network porn, it doesn't matter what horror cliches and stereotypes they chew up and spit out in hacky chunks. The ratings will be there.

What is left is horror movie standards? Murder house covered a slew, asylum was alright, then they did voodoo and witchcraft. Unless they start "borrowing" from Stephen King or start having more monsters, what else can they do?
