Drew Goddard To Write Netflix/Disney's 'Daredevil' Series

Update 12/9: Marvel reveals that in addition to writing, executive producing and showrunning the series, Drew Goddard will direct the pilot episode of “Daredevil” too.

According to “The Secret,” all you need to do to be successful and get everything you want in life is to put those good vibes out there. And whether or not he’s read the bestseller, it seems to have worked for Drew Goddard“You’re talking to a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his wall while growing up,” he told Collider over the summer when asked about the franchise. “Even when I was 18, I still had the blood red door with the, ‘I have shown him that a man without hope is a man without fear.’ That was what I loved and so it’s the sort of thing that if we can find the right project, I would love to do it.” And so, here we are …

The Wrap reports that the man behind “Cabin In The Woods” and “Cloverfield” and who helped salvage “World War Z” has been tapped by Marvel to write their “Daredevil” series that will air on Netflix. And given Marvel’s success with Joss Whedon godfathering their universe, perhaps it’s not a shock they want to stay working with someone with his sensibilities. Indeed, Goddard wrote for both “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” and “Angel,” and the pair collaborated on ‘Cabin,’ so this likely a good fit for everyone involved.

There are no plot points just yet, but this will be the first of four shows—followed by “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage“—that will eventually culminate in “The Defenders” miniseries. So basically, “The Avengers” plan but for streaming. “Daredevil” will kick thing off the Netflix deal starting in 2016, and that long wait makes sense considering nothing has even been written yet.

Thanks to the Playlister who used a cover from the hugely underrated Ann Nocenti/John Romita Jr. era of Daredevil rather than the standard Frank Miller Born Again image.

Yes! Ive been looking forward to Drew's next work and a new incarnation of Daredevil so its awesome to see they will be one in the same!

I think this format will be suit Daredevil well. I only hope they go the route of BBC's Sherlock and focus on the action/mystery/thriller aspect rather than the drama aspect. Im tired of serial dramas! (aka soap operas in disguise)

Well this and Ant-Man may be the only actually interesting projects MARVEL is putting out

I like this a lot. Goddard was also involved with Angel, a show who's noir leanings could serve this project well.

Good news!

He also wrote many of the best episodes of LOST. There was definitely a decline in quality after he left in season 5.
