Christopher Nolan’s gritty, dark reality is to modern times what Quentin Tarantino’s chatty gangsters were to the ‘90s. Basically, any time someone comes up with something fresh, it is uninspiringly copied ad nauseum until the culture is beating a dead horse. So at this rate you can probably expect a “gritty and dark” take on a Happy Meal soon enough. In the meantime, a shadowy and grim take on the Super Mario Brothers video game characters has arrived.
“Divergent” screenwriter Evan Daugherty and online multichannel network Maker Studios have teamed up together to create “The Four Players,” which is … wait for it, “a grounded, dark and grittier” tale of the Super Mario Brothers story. Mario is a “fixer,” Luigi is an “addict” speaking at a Narcotics Anonymous-type meeting … you get the picture. We’d say it’s cute, but like us, maybe you’ve grown a little tired (weary and tired?) of this archetype. Watch below and let us know what you think. [via THR]
