While we have yet to see the role of planets Endor and Tatooine in J.J. Abrams‘ “Star Wars: Episode 7,” we’re already deeply exploring Planets Rumor and Speculation as everyone tries to figure out: what it’s going to be about and who will be in it. And today’s latest guesswork belongs to two British actors who may or may not be involved with this down the line.
Firstly, former “Doctor Who” and nerd fave Matt Smith has met Abrams in some capacity about possibly maybe potentially perhaps doing something in “Star Wars: Episode 7.” As usual, the report is couched with caution — “We don’t know if that means he had an audition, a screen test or just a chat with JJ Abrams or George Lucas” — but it’s something for sci-fi/fantasy geeks to think about. One person stepping into the Tardis and wielding a lightsabre? It’s the fandom equivalent of crossing streams in “Ghostbusters” or something.
Meanwhile, Jason Flemyng — who you might remember didn’t deny (or really answer) a question about Matthew Vaughn directing “Star Wars: Episode 7” leading many to assume he confirmed it — has apparently tweeted a page of the script, presumably meaning he’s going to read for a part. (And if you need verification, it seems to match color-wise to a tweet sent out earlier this year by Bad Robot — both pics below). No word yet if Disney lawyers have hounded him over the pic, but we guarantee someone is going to blow up that picture below and try and unscramble the visible text. The countdown is on folks….
“Star Wars: Episode 7” arrives on December 18, 2015. But before that, let’s go back to a simpler time and watch the 1981 “Star Wars” re-release trailer, when the movie returned to theaters for two brief weeks. And trivia fans take note: it was the first time “Episode IV A New Hope” appeared in the opening crawl. Watch below. [Bleeding Cool]
