Michael Ealy Stars In New Sci-Fi Short 'The Signal' Exec Produced By Tim Story - Watch It Now!

By now, I’m sure it’s been well-documented that we here at S&A want to see more directors of African descent working with the sci-fi genre, so I’m always on the alert for films that meet that criteria… like this one, from Marcus Stokes, a short film titled The Signal, which stars Michael Ealy.

In a world saved from a global energy crisis by a new form of wireless power, an ex-scientist turned fugitive must save the city from the fatal side effects of his own invention

The film was executive produced by Ealy’s Think Like A Man director Tim Story, and co-stars Grace Phipps of Vampire Diaries fame.

I dug it!

Looked great, good acting, so-so script, and his power was…confusing.

It's alright. Makes you realize that it's always good to have an actual actor (someone who can act on some level) in your short. Ealy did well and the script was decent. certainly better than 95% of sci-fi shorts out there. I didn't understand the premise, but great effort though. More Black scifi!

Great to see a black person lead a sci fi piece… we certainly need more of this. And don't worry J, a revolution in the superhero/ sci fi genre is coming!! I know that Director R.L. Scott (Call Me King) has a new studio opening up in January of next year called "Wonder Studios", that will showcase heroes of ethnic origin only… including Black male and female characters as lead heroes. They are already taking submissions for actors on the "Wonder Studios" facebook page.

I liked it! It would make a great series. I wish that the co-star was a black woman, which would have been the cherry on top. That's like darn near impossible these days. Wishful thinking for the future….hopefully.
