NBC Orders Comedy Series Starring Maya Rudolph, Produced By 'SNL' Chief Lorne Michaels

Speaking on black women on Saturday Night Live

SNL chief Lorne Michaels will produced a new TV variety series starring former SNL cast member, Maya Rudolph, for NBC primetime.
The network has ordered a pilot for the proposed variety show, to air as a special after the Winter Olympics, which begins Friday, February 7, 2013.
Rudolph will executive produce with Lorne Michaels, Erin David and Dave Becky
Apparently, the series was a hot property, and was chased by a number of networks, with NBC eventually winning out.
This will mark a return to TV for Rudolph, who, most recently, appeared on the big screen this year, in Grown Ups 2 and The Way Way Back, and will feature in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1970s crime drama, Inherent Vice, in 2014.

Well I'll be damn, Maya Rudolph isn't white, is she. I mean, although I've heard all the "accusations" about this woman, I do not watch SNL (or much TV at all), so I never knew who the chatter was about.

But the other day in the credits for Grown Ups 2, I saw her name pass by. Then… BAM, it hit me, that white woman must have been Maya Rudolph. But in this photo, she sho-nuff looks black to me. Anyway, I wanted to make sure I was thinking right and seeing straight, so after reading this post and the comments, I checked her IMDb page. I'll be damn, there it was, her mother is Minnie Riperton! She's a black singer from the 60's. She started with the white band "Rotary Connection". I know, her name and that band probably doesn't ring a bell with this crowd? But….

Actually, she was on that show Up All Night with Christina Applegate and Will Arnett. It was on from 2011-12.

I've been wondering when, if, Paul Thomas Anderson was going to cast Maya or any other black person in one of his films. … I wonder if he's even aware that his wife is a woman of color.
