Trailer of the Week: Russell Crowe Fights an Impending Storm in Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah'

Before the Trailer, We Thought: Yesterday’s sneak peek trailer and poster release offered us only a quick and underwhelming glimpse into Darren Aronofsky’s latest film but if “Black Swan” is any indication, “Noah” is set to reverse the biblical story’s family-friendly interpretation on screen and in children’s books and give it that dark, hallucinatory treatment it has yet to receive.

And Now? “Noah” is exactly what you would expect (in the best of ways) from a Darren Aronofsky bible story combo. The trailer takes a star-studded cast that includes Russell Crowe, Anthony Hopkins, Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson and envelops them in the darkness of an apocalyptic storm. From what we can tell so far “Noah” shuffles between divinely pensive characters and the nature-shattering obstacles they face on earth and in heaven.

Though it remains to be seen, the film brandishes the qualities of both a major studio epic and the subtle symbolic complexities within the narrative that take us back to “Black Swan.” In “Noah” Crowe plays the wise, soft-spoken end of the world fore-teller as he attempts to warn people to no avail of their trespasses in order to save the world they inhabit.

“Noah” is set to hit theaters on March 28, 2014.

I plan to see this movie and make my own opinions about it. It looks like a good one told in the way it might have happened.
