Watch: James Cameron Enlists Matt Damon, Olivia Munn, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Other Celebs for a New Showtime Doc Series About Climate Change

Enlisting the help of a celebrity narrator is a tried and true way for issue docs to try to get an extra boost of attention. Showtime is going one step further with “Years of Living Dangerously,” an upcoming doc series slated for April 2014 that will bring in a slew of famous faces to serve as correspondents traveling the globe for an in-depth examination of climate change.

The series, which will run six to eight hour-long episodes, also comes from some big names — James Cameron, Jerry Weintraub and Arnold Schwarzenegger are the executive producers, alongside Joel Bach and David Gelber (“60 Minutes”) as well as climate expert Daniel Abbasi.

The correspondents are Jessica Alba, Mark Bittman, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, America Ferrera, Harrison Ford, Thomas Friedman, Michael C. Hall, Chris Hayes, Olivia Munn, Dr. M. Sanjayan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ian Somerhalder and Lesley Stahl. The topics they’ll tackle include the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy, severe droughts in the Southwest, the public health impact of heat waves and elite firefighters facing what could be one of the worst fire seasons yet. Check out the trailer below — is that enough star power to bring new attention to the issue?

Make no mistake, it's still about "global" warming – a virtual impossibility with the way the planet works. People look around you – we still have 4 seasons. Nothing has changed. We have variable temperatures like we always have had. Some summers are hotter and some winters are colder, but those do not make for "global" warming when we experience opposing seasons in the northern and southern hemispheres. This movie is nothing but science fiction like Al Gore's was.

give it up

Celebrities have lost their political pull, I think. lol

OMG. Seriously? If this is about Anthropogenic (man-caused) Global Warming (renamed 'climate change"), these people are insane because AGW has not been proven. For instance: the IPCC failed to include fluctuations of the Sun in its ridiculous study blaming Man for causing global warming. Hmm. Ignoring the only reason that there is a liveable temperature for life on this planet is kind of stupid when discussing why the planet is heating up, don't you think? The Sun does not have a static radiance; therefore, the Earth does not have a static temperature.

If this show is about actual natural climate change (ANCC), then okay. The problem is that there is nothing we can do whatsoever about reversing or influencing ANCC, regardless of the emotions of the people adversely affected by it. It is a natural function and all we can hope to do is adapt to it or die. Is the island of Vanuatu disappearing beneath a rising ocean that is rising due to ANCC? Then the people of Vanuatu must move or die…..or build a dyke like the Netherlands to hold the sea at bay forever. Somehow I don't think that ANCC is the thrust of this show. This appears to be just another great celebrity-packed influencer of the low-information voter ("I got my Obama phone!"). Carbon credits, anyone?
