Watch: Jennifer Lawrence Is A Loose Cannon In 'American Hustle' TV Spot, Is She An Oscar Frontrunner?

With the Indie Spirit Award nominations just announced, prognosticators are now looking into their crystal ball anew, rethinking their Oscar predictions. But it pays to remember to that a) the Spirit Awards have a budget cutoff that renders lots of movies ineligible and b) obviously “American Hustle” and “The Wolf Of Wall Street” are two major movies that could alter the awards landscape in a big way. And one actress already being talked about in hushed tones for another Oscar statue is Jennifer Lawrence.

Over the weekend, a SAG Nominating Committee screening brought forth praise for the actress. As The Wrap noted in their coverage, Lawrence reportedly “steals the show” as the wife of Christian Bale‘s conman, while Amy Adams told Variety her co-star was “fearless.” And Deadline added fuel to the fire declaring Lawrence’s turn as “simply dazzling… a total knockout scene-stealer throughout.” Damn. And this newest TV spot provides a few more moments of Lawrence’s electric-looking turn, playing what the ad describes as a “loose cannon.” And all this begs the question: is she an Oscar frontrunner?

Watch below and let us know what you think. “American Hustle” opens on December 18th.

I loved "Silver Linings Playbook" and I thought JL was great in it, but she looks completely over-the-top in every clip from "American Hustle." And not in a good way. She doesn't appear to be hitting it out of the park so much as beating it to death. Everything is cranked to 11. I guess it's Oscar worthy if you believe Eddie Murphy's Mama Klump is Oscar worthy. Because both performances appear to be about as subtle and believable.

Personally, I have been taken with Amy Adams more modulated "sexy con artist" transformation – it's hard to believe that that is the same actress from "Junebug" and "Doubt."

Jennifer Lawrence just keeps knocking it out of the park with each performance she gives!….amazing, I mean, Lawrence has been consistently giving fantastic performances since The Burning Plain up to and including Catching Fire and now, apparently in American Hustle as well.

Frankly, I become less interested in Jennifer Lawrence as an actress the more things I see her in. I loved her in Winter's Bone, thought she was pretty good in Silver Linings Playbook, decent enough in X-men and The Beaver, and have actively disliked her acting in Hunger Games. I wonder if it's just Debra Granik has been the best director she's worked with so far.

maybe that this time she deserves to be nominated
