On Saturday night the BAFTA Los Angeles Jaguar Britannia Awards honored Sacha Baron Cohen with the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy and the “Borat” and “Bruno” fame honored them right back with yet another unpredictably funny stunt.
It all started when Salma Hayek walked onto the stage with an elderly woman in a wheelchair holding in her frail arms a Charlie Chaplin cane. Before presenting the award, Hayek explained to the star-studded audience that the woman was Grace Cullington who as a little girl had appeared in the 1931 Chaplin film “City Lights.” Baron Cohen then took the stage by storm and after being offered the cane by Cullington, did a short Chaplin-style walk that ended tragically, hilariously wrong.
