WATCH: Stephen Colbert Takes Washington Post Columnist Richard Cohen to Task

Check out Stephen Colbert taking a bite out of Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen, who most recently infuriated the media and anyone with a brain by clumsily penning that “people with conventional views must repress a gag reflex
when considering the mayor-elect of New York — a white man married to a black
woman and with two biracial children. (Should I mention that Bill de Blasio’s
wife, Chirlane McCray, used to be a lesbian?)” (Cohen later tried to explain that he was not reflecting his own views.)

Here’s the quote in full:

“Today’s GOP is not racist, as Harry Belafonte alleged about
the tea party, but it is deeply troubled — about the expansion of government,
about immigration, about secularism, about the mainstreaming of what used to be
the avant-garde. People with conventional views must repress a gag reflex when
considering the mayor-elect of New York — a white man married to a black woman
and with two biracial children. (Should I mention that Bill de Blasio’s wife,
Chirlane McCray, used to be a lesbian?)”

Colbert then goes on to take Cohen to task by suppressing gagging throughout his monologue — because, you know, that’s the conventional reaction. Watch below.

Speaking of Colbert, he also did a lovely job singing and acting alongside Neil Patrick Harris in Stephen Sondheim’s “Company,” which we finally caught during a recent airing on PBS. We’ve included video of that, too, below.
